Our guides preparing for an expedition in the Bolivian altiplano

39 Years of
Andean Expeditions

Before the Salar was on any map

ValleHermoso Tours was born in 1987 in Tupiza, a small city in the southern Bolivian Andes tucked between painted canyon walls. At the time, the Salar de Uyuni was virtually unknown outside Bolivia — there were no tourist lodges, no paved roads, no Instagram hashtags.

Our founder — a local guide who had spent years crossing the altiplano with geological survey teams — saw what others hadn't yet: that this landscape was unlike anywhere on Earth, and that travellers willing to make the journey would return transformed.

He was right. For 39 years, ValleHermoso has led expeditions across South Lípez, the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve, and the great white blank of the Salar. We have watched the world discover Bolivia, and we have watched Bolivia change — while keeping the things that make these journeys worth doing.

We are still based in Tupiza. Our guides are still local. And we still plan every trip personally, because no two expeditions — or two travellers — are the same.

Our Values

Local Knowledge

Every guide was born in the region. They know the roads, the weather patterns, the seasons. There is no substitute for this.

Honest Pricing

We don't quote low and surprise you later. Our prices are complete — no hidden extras except the national park fees paid in cash.

Responsible Tourism

We keep groups small, avoid sensitive ecological areas when conditions require it, and respect the communities we pass through.

Your Route, Not Ours

We start from what you want to see and build backwards. We don't fit you into a pre-made template.

Our Guides

Each of our guides has been leading expeditions across the Bolivian altiplano for at least 10 years. They are drivers, naturalists, and storytellers in equal measure.

High altitude, handled carefully

Our routes reach up to 5,000m. We take altitude acclimatisation seriously — building in rest, monitoring our guests, and adjusting pace when needed. Every vehicle carries a first-aid kit and oxygen supply.
